I have a Windows Vistas desktop PC connected directly to my wireless router via ethernet. There are 2 windows XP laptops that conect to the wireless network. Is there a way I can make the printer accessible from all 3 computers? If so, how can I fo this? Any help much appreciated!

My PC is connected to my wireless Router (D-Link DIR 635) by ethernet. The other 2 laptops connect wirelessly. I have the printer connected to one of the laptops currently, I ran the Network Setup wizard to share printers and files on this laptop. I did the same on the othre laptop, but this cant access the printer. The PC cant access the printer either. Should I have the printer connected to the PC and the 2 laptops connect to it through the router? Is this possible? Help mych appreciated

You should be able to plug the printer into any of the pc's and share it to all of them on the same network.. I'm not a networking professional, but I may be able to help.

Sharing the printer on the computer that the printer is actually connected to isn't your last step... In many if not all cases you will need to add the printer to the other computers by going to printers in the control panel and clicking add printer. You will then most likely need to download the drivers for the printer. Have you done all of this?

If you have, then this may help... I know that on our home network, we have a printer on a 2000 machine. The printer is shared, BUT because of security on the 2000 machine I must log in to the 2000 machine before anything will print on the shared printer. If you're using any sort of password protected sharing, then this may be causing problems, though I'm unsure. On ours, we can always choose the shared printer to print to it, but unless we've logged in to the 2000 machine, it will never print, so it took me a while to figure out what the problem was. Maybe this, or something similar, is happening to you, even though it's a different operating system.

As far as choosing which machine to plug the printer into, I'd suggest plugging it into the desktop for the following reason. Now, I don't know you, but I'd assume that it would be much more likely for you to want to move around or take one of the laptops with you. If you plugged the printer into the desktop, you wouldn't have to worry about unplugging the printer and plugging it back in or moving it every time you wanted to move your laptop or take it with you.
