Hey, I was wondering if there was a good freeware that could show you if what all is taking up bandwidth on your computer...

I've asked this on just about every board and never got anywhere with it..

usually my computer downloads (56k) music at right around 4.5 KB/sec; 5 is good, anything under 4 is poor. the only time this has NOT been the case is when Windows Messenger was on in the background and I didn't know it.

the problem is, for the past couple months, it has really started sucking it up. 2.5 KB/sec, etc...and my connection speeds have remained a constant 45.2 kb/s

I've checked for spyware, adware, I've got McAfee anti-virus, and I've tried uninstalling everything I remember installing within the past 5 months..

Is there any freeware that is good and won't crash my system that would show what (if anything) was hogging my system? Programs, etc.

I got leechget and it works great most of the time, but sometimes even it is slow, and I'd like to see what it could do if my normal download speeds were up to par.

Any suggestions, ideas, etc. would be really appreciated, thanks.

Given the description, my Guess would be that nothing is Hogging your Internet bandwidth.

Could be deterioration of Tel. lines. Modem getting tired, ISP pumps less into the connection excessive electrical noise etc.

Try to optimize the TCP/IP Stack.

    Download DrTCP: DSLreports DrTCP021.exe

Run the program, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

    Start with:

    MaxMTU - DialUp = 576

    Tcp Receive - 65392

    Window Scaling - Yes

    Time Stamping - No

    Selective Acks - Yes

    Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

    Black Hole - NO

    Max Duplicate - 2

    TTL - 64
