hp laptop startup problem

    I have an hp n5420 laptop and when I go to cut it on it goes a little ways through the startup and then cuts off. sometimes it makes it all the way through the startup and cuts off and sometimes it doesn't even make it to the hp logo. I'm running it off of the ac adapter because the battery doesn't hold a charge. It will actually let me into the system settings and diagnostic mode but it still eventually cuts off after a while.


    Any suggestions as to what is wrong with it will be welcome.

    Actually remove the battery and try with the AC.
