I try to acess the amazon.com website and always get the following message:Forbidden. You do not have permission to acess this document.

I doesn´t happen with the amazon websites in UK, Canada or China. Just happens in Amazon.com

Please, help me. I need to buy some books that I can´t find here in Brazil.

    Thanks for your help.

    Best regards,

Márcio - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.

    Need more info please.

What browser are you using, and do you have any firewall or popup blockers installed etc?

    Ok.

I´m using the latest version of Internet Explorer, but the same happens when I try using Netscape or Firefox. I use the Mcfee firewall and I have the google toolbar which has a popup blocker. Anyway, I´ve tried to turn the popup and the firewall on and off and the problem is still there.

When I try to acess amazon.com from my computer at work I don´t have any problems. It just happens with my computer at home.

Try cleaning out all your cookies and Tempory Internet Files, (you can use CCleaner to do this, it works great) then see what happens.

    eclayton,

I already tried this. I used ccleaner and also did it manually.

    Unhappily it´s not that simple.

    Anyway, thanks for your help.

If amazon isn't loading with both Internet Explorer and Firefox, and you also get the message "Forbidden, you do not have permission to access this document", then something or someone is blocking that site, rather than a problem with your browser.

You could try Safe Mode with Networking, and if it still doesn't load, then check with your ISP.

Man...I tryied it and still doesnt work. I already checked with the ISP and I`m pretty sure the problem is in my computer.

You tried it within safemode with networking and it still doesn't work?

Then perhaps resetting all your IE security settings to default may help.

Other than that, instead of going to amazon.com, try going to:

    http:\\207.171.175.29

Is this a home computer, or a work computer, do you have software that blocks accessing certain sites?

What operating system are you running, btw?

You tried it within safemode with networking and it still doesn't work?

    Yes. It didn´t work.

Then perhaps resetting all your IE security settings to default may help.

    It didn´t work as well.

Other than that, instead of going to amazon.com, try going to:

    http:\\207.171.175.29

By doing this I get the same message: "Forbidden..."

Is this a home computer, or a work computer, do you have software that blocks accessing certain sites?

This is my home computer. No blocks at all.

What operating system are you running, btw?

    Windows XP Professional SP1

If this computer isn't networked, and you are sure that there are no firewalls etc are blocking the site, the most likely culprit is your ISP.

The computer is not networked. I have a Mcfee firewall but I turned it off and tryied to acess amazon.com and it didn´t work.

Oh boy...I wondering if I will have to format my HD... :(

Before you do that, Imnomniac suggested that it may be your Internet Service Provider. You might try giving them a call and telling them the problem.

    Take care,
    Eric

I've run into this on a few sites for no reason and suspected my ISP. This was expericanced from two seperate PC's with the only thing in common was my router, Modem and ISP. After a few days it started working, never did pin down as to what cause it.

Are you on a Modem? Try turning off it off for a few minutes, it may reset.

your problem does seem to be a head scratcher.....

without wanting to sound like a simpleton....
have you considered ordering your book from a different computer? perhaps the one in work that does link to the site?
    just a thought.....

Maybe I didn´t made myself clear.

I did contact my ISP weeks ago. No sucess at all.

I turned my modem off several times after this problem started ocurring and it´s still there.

Yes, It´s possible to order the book from my computer at work. The only problem is that my company (it´s a energy utility belonged by Brazil´s government) has a policy that says that shopping at work is not allowed and the one who does it can be fired.

    So...

If it's not working in Safe Mode with Networking, (or with different browsers) then you can be fairly confident that it's not something to do with Windows, or something running off Windows.

That leaves just your ISP, regardless of what they may or may not say.

    Thanks for posting the solution.

I actually saw this as a solution in another forum, but didn't give it much credit.

Sometimes it is the simplest little things that solve major problems. I thought of the host table, but put it out of my mind. 'Cause I always see the worse case scenario... :)
