My dad recently upgraded to Norton Internet Security 2005 and after doing so it casued his computer to run exremely slow, he can no longer access his e-mail and he cannot access many websites that are on the level of sesame street which obviously would not be blocked.
To put it bluntly, the software sucks. Spybot and various free programs do a whole lot better job.
The problem is that I can't even delete it off of the computer. I have been instructed to use add/remove programs in the control panel to do so. I can't go this route however because it requires that NIS2005 be logged into using a password. He does not remember ever using a password and there is no to determine it as usual when you are provided hints to refresh your memory.
I have been waiting on their customer support line for clsoe to an hour with nobody to help me.
    This company is aweful!!!
Can anybody help me remove this program?

P.S. I'm not some kid trying to access porno sites on his parents computer by removing parental controls. I'm just trying to get his computer back to where it was before installing this garbage program.

When you try to uninstall the program from the Add-Remove programs list in the control panel, does the program as k you for a password because there was one entered during the installation? If so and your dad do not recall entering one, then are you able to bypass it by leaving the password field blank (nothing typed in). Also check the manual if there is one to see if the program automatically assigns a password if it was left blank, like a default pasword of some sort. Usually Norton products (I personally do not like Norton at all), it requires the original program CD to be inserted, this password thing is new. Are you sure it is not requiring the user to have Admin privileges? Were you logged in as an admin? If you are using XP, worse case scenario use the System REstore after deleting the program files/folders yourself, but wait for ther tech supports reply or for someone who ad personally experience on this subject...I was just stating a few thing...don't rush into deleting it manually, ok?

;) I had similar problems with NIS 2004.
My password was changed & not accepted. Nortons 'digs in deep' and does not easily remove- completely. On the Symantec Support site are good basics: (http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/support_options.html > other non tech issues).
Your dad may need to log-in as Administrator (perhaps his user id is an Administrator) to un-install. Also- Windows Install Cleanup utility & and a registry tool: Registry Mechanic may be needed. If using Win XP- dis-able System Restore (Control Panel > System & System Restore tab). Be sure to have a good backup & all Files saved (burn photos, music etc. to CDs or DVDs). You may have to use 'Regedit' to 'hunt down' all the Symantec Registry enteries- You may need help with this! Backup the registry before any changes.
You still need a Firewall and protection- I switched to Trend Micro PC-cillian. But today- You need multiple protection. Such as Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster & Spyware Doctor.
I was a strong Nortons & Symantec user- but recently I was really disappointed in their support! In spite of running XP w/SP2 and constantly updating Nortons and Microsoft & scanning- my Nortons was disabled and 'someone else' had control!
    Good Luck!
    Mike
