I'd like you to check out my Laptop Cooling Setup and tell me what you think...

Hello, I recently purchased a Sony VAIO laptop FE series (march 2007), and at first it used to get really hot :cry when playing heavy duty online games, therefore, I bought a cooling pan which did help the overheating issue a bit. After a while, I noticed that the cooling pan didn't necessarily cool down the spot where the CPU is located, therefore, I decided to expand the cooling operation:major. I bought a standard super fan, and a mini fan the size of a baby's head to cool the entire bottom and top part of my laptop, plus still kept the cooling pan for even more air/cooling;). Here are some pictures (excuse the poor lighting, but the pictures were taken with my laptop's internal webcam)

I use an open plastic crate that has tiny and medium openings everywhere so the air dissipates itself every second; the laptop is on top of the crate, sitting firmly and without a problem on its edges. I keep the cooling pan and the mini fan inside the crate to cool the CPU, HDD and pretty much the entire bottom of the laptop. Specifically, the mini fan is directed almost entirely towards the CPU, and the cooling pan takes care of the HDD and the rest. The super fan, which stands on the left side of the crate, cools the top of the laptop, aids in cooling the bottom part and pretty much the entire laptop. I keep the 3 fans on at all times when using the laptop for anything. Also, I use a Desktop keyboard on my lap so I don't feel the fans, therefore, I don't get cold :p

Here are the stats with the 3 fans on: When idle, the temp is: 33-34. When playing a game or doing some heavy duty stuff on it, the temp goes to 50 or 53 max. It never goes past 55. Before, without fans, it would shoot up to 70-75 when playing games and the internal fan would kick in; with the cooling operation I got going on now, the internal fan NEVER starts up:cool.

I'd like to know what you think, please. Am I ovedoing it? is it perfect? is it just ok? should I get even more or better fans? is it a waste of time because the fans are not internal? confused

Looks like its working pretty good for you but 55 is way to hot for me lol then again i water cool and never went above 32c lol.

I had this idea about a water cooling plate for a laptop if your intrested it might work out pretty well but i dont know its just a idea i got that i never really put into action because i lack a laptop lol.

Basicly you get a copper plate the size of the laptop and braze a copper tube on it so its kinda like a raidator. Then brage another plate on it and put on some fittings. Then get a cheap water pump and a cheap heatercore "heater core will run about $25" slap some fans on it and hook it all up and it should help suck some of that heat way and you should still be able to hear your self if your in the room lol.

It seems your rig is pretty effective. I just don't think i could stand having to set my laptop on a crate. I think a higher end cooling pad would be a little bit more practical, mainly for portability. But if your setup works for you, then great.

That laptop cooling plate sounds intriguing. Basically a massive version of a homemade copper plate for wc'ing, right? Throw me some more info on that if u got it.
