I followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378/EN-US/ and my ie6 can't be reinstalled as it says a newer version is on?

I just followed the intructions to repair ie6 and the thing is impossible as
i can't reintall it. IE6 is damaged so what do I do?
I type and url and i get an exception error and have to close it down.

I get rid of ie6 from win components and also download ie6 again and it won't install as i get a new version is on?

    I don't have ie7 installed but ie6.
I had ie7 on but uninstalled it and it rolled back to ie6 .
I thought I could get rid of the problem that way.
ie7 doesn't show up anywhere and it is not there at all.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.
    Click the Search button.
In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.
