Temporarily changing the desktop's them to Windows XP and back to Windows Classic resolves the problem - also temporarily.

How can I permanently stop this from happening?

Several attempts to upload the Belarc scan, which is attached to my previous post, have failed ..... is there no end to these irritating problems?

Thank you Nick. Yes, I have now done that. In fact, I now remember doing this previously - it's happend many times.

That 6th answer is interesting. Must say that I have never noticed, or at least paid attention to, this option before.

It's early to say if this will result in a permanent cure, but, based on experience, I have my doubts rolleyes

While the Personal Computer must be the most sophisticated and versatile tool yet invented, it can be the most frustrating.

Hey dmbo6851, try this out, click Start, then Control Panel, then Administrative Tools, then Services, scroll down to Themes, click on Themes and then click the Stop option, then double click on Themes and change Automatic to Manual.

Thank you again Nick. Another setting of which I have not previously been aware.

I've done that. Let's see what happens .....
