Hey im at college at the moment. Im using one of the computers here to search google and yahoo for stuff. I noticed that all my searches were finding the same dodgy sites over and over. Every time i search it finds casino, porn, ad and popup sites etc. It never finds the things im looking for. I noticed that when i hit search the status bar shows a page loading that is not a google or yahoo site. Check out the pic.

I have scanned for viruses and adware etc. found a few bits but removing them did nothing.

Im really just wondering what had caused this. It seems to be searching a different database of sites and returning the results to a google window.

found the problem. DSMANAGER.DLL was causing this to happen. Why did the virus or adware not pick this up.

A college, full of horny adolescents, is the perfect place to find infected PC's. Sounds like the college is not using "safe computing". :D Their network is not fully protected. Hardware or software firewalls are letting them down. AntiVirus software is not installed, or not up-to-date.

Startup page has been hijacked, probably.

Unless the college IT section lift their game, you are always gonna find crap on the network.

Ah our college is absolutly useless for that kinda stuff. I do more maintence on the pc's there than the college staff do.

Every time i goto a computer i install or update adaware and update norton which is on all computers but usually out of date.

I tend to leave the computer spottless and find about a day or two later that the pc is back to the way it was.

There is one section of the college that seems to be always absolutly clean of any spyware. It must be a different admin in that part of the college. But even this part of the college is not totally secure. Eg. I always use msdos and telnet and do alot of comand based stuff but they have all this stuff disabled on most of the computers. If you try a direct link to command.exe it says that this optiion is disabled but all i have to do is run command.com and it works. I try to get around other stuff too but ill leave that out!

If they did get a compident admin id just get pissed off or just get banned from the computers for constantly trying to get around their security measures.

to remove crap like that just get Ad-Aware second edition. it works really well for me. also tell ur IT corp at college to change the computers at school with certian rights.
