If ie 9 is not default my desktop internet links open ms Word instead

A few days ago Microsoft had me download ie 9 as an important update

I do not use IE as my default browser.

Now however, if I make my perferred browser my default browser, my desktop internet links go crazy. Instead of using my default browser when I clink on an internet link, Vista opens MS Word with a cashed copy of the internet page. :confused

I went to default programs and deleted MS word from all of the file types. But this did not help.

I changed all of the browser defaults away from IE to my perferred browser, but that did not help either.

The links will only work if I make IE 9 my default browser again.

I do not want to use IE as my default.

Have you tried restoring to a point before the IE9 update?

 

Great idea.

Apparently my eariliest restore point was not early enough because I still see ie 9. Can I uninstall ie 9?

You can uninstall IE9 via Control Panel > Programs and Features > View installed updates > Windows Internet Explorer 9.
