Hey when i am running internet explorer and i am using the window the cpu goes to >70% usage but if i minimise it the cpu will go back to <2%. Whats up with that?

This causes the cpu to eventually reach 100% and stay there.

What can i do to stop this.

A man goes to his doctor and says "Hey doc, when I do this it hurts." and the doctor replies, "So don't do that." And the moral of the story is don't use IE.

If you have virus software that is up to date and have scanned and found nothing, I'd try to re-install/restore IE, that may mean the entire OS. I've never tried just IE before.

It sounds like it time to try Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/

I've heard some people have has pretty good luck with Opera as well but Firefox is my choice.

    What happened to troubleshooting problems?

If you car breaks down, do you go use another one?

Of course not, you get it fixed.

    To the original poster:

Does this happen on any site, or just some?

    Try it on google.com

    My Internet Explorer works.

    It doesn't have this issue.

There is a problem here that needs to be addressed.

Thats not optimisim, thats reality :)

Yes it very well may be reality but how many users just take the easy way out. :)

Its one thing when users do.

Its quite another when techs do.

People need to remember here, if you are helping, then you are doing tech support. Period. If you want to take the easy way out helping someone, or ignore a problem, then its best to not say anything at all.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, of course.

    You're absolutely right :)
Time for me to shut my mouth or should i say relax my fingers.
Sometimes though something very well might be as simple as.
If all fails then the tech is involved. I see this as reducing the workload.

just have to highlight this quoted section in case it gets missed and the advice not answered.

also do you have any add-ons for IE eg. google toolbar or any browser helper objects. one of them maybe corrupt.

ok then... i leave for a few hours and a big fight breaks out.

Anyway it happens on every website just with different percentages.
From what i can see the ammount of cpu usage depends on the ammount of content on the pages and what the pages are doing.

Google seems to use about 50% but microsoft update site uses 100% majorgeeks is using about 45%
I have reciently reinstalled windows and sp2. i have done all my updates.

i dont know of this is related but after i installed sp2 i got a virus off my college network. i removed it with out much problems. it was a worm/padobot.v it was located in c:\windows\system32

You didn't say whether you had any addons :)

Try this. Tools->Internet Options->Advanced->Enable 3rd party plugins. Uncheck it. restart IE. See if the problem persist.

    :)
