An associate donated a pc to me with windows xp pro on it. Over the last 8 weeks I have been moving some old programs and documents from the former onto the donated one. Today I went to move a Sandisk card reader, downloaded the drivers form he website and had them installed. PC asked for a reboot to finish installation.

PC never booted up again, locking up xp as it loaded. I tried to boot up in safe mode but with the same result. I booted from the cd and then got this error message:

Inf file textsetip.sif is corrupt or missing status 8192
Setup cannot continue, press any key to exit.

I think my hardware hosed my copy of xp but I'm not sure what the error message means, being a non-tech-geek.

    Suggestions?

I looked around at the Microsoft Knowledge Base and found only one reference to textsetup.sif and it didn't tell me much, but maybe you'll find it helpful: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310064/en-us
After doing some research, it seems that textsetup.sif is a file that tells WinXP how to handle certain drivers, and the file can be edited with Notepad or an equivilant text editor. I simply Googled the filename and found lots of stuff. I didn't take the time to look thru everything (that's your job ;) ) but here's a link that may shed some light on the file and what it's supposed to do, and how to edit it: http://forums.ngine.de/viewtopic.php?t=2028&sid=95b958d7a5884cd18de14ec6b62f1c05
Here's two more links that may be helpful:

Yeah- I know... not the best or most useful advice, but it should be enough to get you started. I hope it helps....

As far as I am aware, a card reader doesn't need any drivers installed unless it was for windows 98SE. Any OS after 98SE has the drivers and the product should be a plug and play device.
Is the reader attached by USB and you put the sandisk card into the device?

It's a Sandisk card reader. I thought it would be plug and play as well but when I plugged it in, it asked for the CD. Ran the CD and it needed to reboot to complete.

I looked at the links - many thanks, it's beyond my non-tech IQ so I may refer this to the local PC repair guy.

Do you have a model for the card reader? I'd like to look to try and figure out what the CD has on it.

    ScanDisck Card reader model SDDR-09.

I put my PC into the tech shop yesterday, looks like I'm going to be away from home over Thanksgiving weekend so I need to have the home email up and running.

I'll also let you know what the tech says...once it gets back
