installer for net

    I am using xpsp2 and cannot install web updates. getting error message "could not load installer for net. contact device vendor. it doesn't say what device or vendor. i can't update any windows components. Please help

    Dont know if you have resolved this as yet, but maybe more info would help...

    Any other messages shown, if so please post them verbatim as it helps tremendously?

    Is the Win Update your using the inbuilt one in XP ( auto update ) or is it this link http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us ? if not this link try it and see what happens.


    Was thinking it could have been the newer Windows Installer http://support.microsoft.com/?id=893803 you needed but wether you have this or not depends on the last time WU worked... this update was issued in Oct 05

    This error appears on a lot of forums and no one had an answer!

    I just had the same problem and it seems to be related to the Network Connections properties in Win Xp. I was not able to open my connection properties or remove & re-install my network card drivers! When I tried to do a Windows update I would also get the Device Installer Error "Windows could not load the installer for Net."

    I finally searched Microsoft's support site and found this article which may help you resolve your problem also. By following the troubleshooting steps in the article I discovered my problem was a file missing from the system32 folder (netcfgx.dll). If this file is missing Windows can not start Simple TCP/IP Services, which will cause the Device Installer Error "Windows could not load the installer for Net."
