I'm trying to install a Samsung ML-2010 on a new HP DV6000 laptop that I just bought with Windows Vista Home Basic installed.

When I do a search for the printer, no printers show in the "Add Printer" window. Additionally, I cannot see the shared drive from my desktop as well.

Anyone else have a similar problem or a solution?

For the printer problem: just install the printer driver using provided CD or downloaded driver. It will find it afterwards.
Shared drive problem: security. make sure you have same users/password on both PCs, make sure you have "file and printer sharing" installed and enabled.
