I have a Windows 2000 upgrade disk. Can I reformat the hard drive and do a new installation of Windows 2000?

as long as you have an existing CD of a prior windows FULL installation, yes. It should ask you for the that when you install.

its the same deal with Office too, heheheheheee, can save a few pounds like that......ahem, sorry? yes if its an upgrade version all you need is a windows disk thats not above the current one. e.g. i could install XP if i had my ME disk, but wouldnt have to install ME.. hehe, clever

heh.. in the earlier versions of office and I think windows too (don' t quote me on that), with the update cd's- you were able to point the install to itself and it would scan the upgrade cd and verify it as a full product and proceed with the install.. ;)

I do have a windows 95 disk. I pretty sure it's the full version (i'm not there to double check). Thanks for the advice.

    One other question:

Why does microsoft sell two different versions of each OS? Why not just do what other smaller companies do and give customers who can prove ownership of a previous version a discount? Wouldn't Microsoft save some huge money then through not having to create and package two products?
