I reinstalled Windows XP on my Dell, and now the sound device is not working. The computer has no sound card, but it does have some on-board chip from dell.

In the "Sounds and Audio Device properties" part of Control Panel, It says "No audio device" in the Volume Tab. In the "Hardware" tab, one device is called "Intel(r) AC'97 Audio Controller": Is this the device I need to get working? Its device properties say: "Location: PCI bus 0, device 30, function 2" and "Device Status: This device cannot start (Code 10)"

Is it a matter of reinstalling drivers for it, and if so, where do I get them?

    Thank you for your help!
