Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection Adapter

Discussion in 'Software' started by CloudNine, Apr 22, 2006.

Need help finding appropriate driver for network adapter:
Comcast tech had me uninstall my network adapter over the phone to troubleshoot bad internet connection. Turns out I didn't have backup copies.
I've been trying and trying to install suitable drivers, but nothing works.
My network cable goes into one of those small silver boxes, not straight into a PCI card. I've tried installing several variants of Intel Pro/100 that my computer seems to see, including Desktop Adapter, Advanced Management Adapter, Desktop Connection, etc. All these and more now show up in my network adapters list, but they don't function and can't be removed.
Can someone please help me through this?
I have an Intel V.2.03 Pentium 4 packed in Feb. '02.
I downloaded pro2kxp.exe and ran that, but it didn't help.
The inside of the computer looks ok to me.
Isn't there a folder on my C drive that will show me the original adapter/driver configuration? Isn't it just a matter of reassociating the appropriate file to the hardware?
I appreciate any help you may have to offer.
    Thanks.
    Jim

    Hi,
As I mentioned in first post, I've already run and installed the drivers from that package in which number 1 (your recommendation) is included. In fact I found two slightly different signature dates on two versions and ran the newest after nothing worked. I can do it again and just concentrate on the desktop adapter,
however when everything was originally working it was using the VE Network Connection driver.
I keep trying new ones, but they all say they can't start and that they can't be removed.
If anyone else can also chime in it would be appreciated.
Or a pointer to a more active site for drivers discussion.
    Thanks.

Have you tried the PROuninstaller? It should remove your LAN drivers that you have...then try reinstalling it

  7. CloudNine

    CloudNine Private E-2

    Can you post the link?
I think I tried uninstalling, but couldn't remove a lot of them.
In the meantime I will look for the pro uninstaller.
    Thanks much for helping.

  8. CloudNine

    CloudNine Private E-2

I ran prouninstaller and was able to delete many of the network adapter instances. I'm still left with a desktop adapter and ve network connection adapter that can't start and can't be removed. When I try to install a new one, I get it but it can't start and can't be removed.
    The prouninstaller program couldn't find promon.exe, prosetp.cpl, prosetp.hlp, and prosetp.cnt.
Do you think I should give up and take it to a technician?

I'll try the second probably after work Monday.

    Sounds about right.
    Thanks for your perseverance.

    Still doesn't work.

I ran the uninstall programs twice each or more.
    Still can't remove.
    Any other ideas?

Is this PC a custom build or one from dell,hp etc?

and I see in Belarc you havn't scanned your computer in over 30 days...See if there are any updates for it and run a scan...it might be causing the problem

  14. CloudNine

    CloudNine Private E-2

Hi. The computer was custom built by a company in N.Cal.
    MicroDynamics, I believe...
Computer hasn't been scanned since it no longer can connect to internet.
Not sure how to get updates for it without internet connection to it.

  15. Komodo25

    Komodo25 Private First Class

Ok, just try running a scan see if anything comes up

try running the uninstallers in "Safe mode" see if that does anything..if not try going into device manager...right click on your LAN...properties...drivers...roll back driver

  16. CloudNine

    CloudNine Private E-2

Will do probably after work tonight.
I'm at work now and have XP. I don't see LAN properties in Device Manager and don't remember seeing it in W2K. Where is that?
I don't think I've ever seen a roll back driver option either.

  17. Komodo25

    Komodo25 Private First Class

Go to Device Manager then click on the "+" on network adapters then right click on your nic card...properties....Drivers. It's been awhile since I have used 2000 so I'm not 100% sure if there is a Roll back driver option or not...if not try clicking on Update driver

  18. CloudNine

    CloudNine Private E-2

Yes, it's just the Update Driver option. Maybe my mistake is using the wrong version of the driver when I get a list to choose from. I may have tried most or all of the versions by now.
Anyway, hopefully I can uninstall in Safe Mode.
I hope I can reinstall the VE Network Connection, as that is the one I originally was using.

  19. CloudNine

    CloudNine Private E-2

I went into Safe Mode and did a virus scan on both hard drives: no infected files.
Then I was able to uninstall all the Intel Pro adapters.
I was left with Cisco VPN adapter and Ethernet Controller which I installed awhile back when I was looking for the right adapter driver.
So I was back to no Intel Pro adapters.
I ran the autorun program to install the Intel Proset and nothing got installed.
So I manually installed the Network VE Connection adapter that I need via the Hardware Wizard.
Back to square one: Device won't start and can't be removed.
Any more ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Do you think I might mess anything up if I choose Last Known Good Configuration under Advanced Options (Startup F8)?
