In November 2006, I made posts regarding that Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP won't bring up Westlaw.com. My November 2006 Major Geeks post is at
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=868751#post868751

    I finally found a solution.

The site http://iis.bhsu.edu/lis/digital/faqs.cfm states that an inability to access Westlaw.com from Internet Explorer 7 generally is due to an incompatibility between Westlaw website and computers with Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Here is the fix listed at http://iis.bhsu.edu/lis/downloads/westlaw.doc :

    1. Please check whether you have Service Pack 2 installed on your computer.
 Right click on “My Computer” on your computer desktop.
     Choose “Properties”
 Fourth line on the Window should mention “Service Pack 2” - if Service Pack 2 is there then you need to configure your Internet Explorer browser

    2.
 Open Internet Explorer browser (click on it)
     Go to “Tools”
     Choose “Internet Options”
     Go to “Security”
 Choose “Trusted Sites” and bring slider down to lowest level
 If you do not see a slider, then click on “Default Level”

    3.
 Click on “Sites,” - a window will pop up and then add 3 websites –
    4. however, before adding these 3 websites, make sure “Required Server Verification” in unchecked

    5.
 The first website to add is: http://www.westlaw.com - remember to click the “Add” button after you type website address (Note: the “/” (forward slash) is found on the button that has the “?” on your keyboard)
 The second website to add is: https://*.westlaw.com - click the “Add” button after you type that address, too.
 The third website to add is: http://*westlaw.com - click the “Add” button

    6.
 Click on the “OK” button after adding all 3 websites
 Click “OK” one more time
     Then “Restart” your computer

I tried the above solution and it resolved my Westlaw problem.

Question: After going through the above steps, the slider for my “Trusted Sites” now is down to the lowest level and my “Required Server Verification” in unchecked. Should I be concerned or change these back?
