Internet Explorer extremely slow

When I use Internet Explorer, it can take up to a minute to open a page. I am using it over a LAN connection. When I look at the CPU usage, it is using 98% of the resourses. Any other programs are fine with response time if Internet Explorer is closed. I can use FireFox and it is quick but there is a site I use for work that requires Internet Explorer.

I am using Windows 2000 SP4. I have downloaded all the Windows updates and Internet Explorer updates. I did the Read Me First step-by-step and it cleaned off files. Used Hijack This but after I run the fix and run it again the files are back. I have removed the .exe files that Hijack This refers to that I know are bad.

I have a log that I can post.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal and you still have problems, see the below.

    - Download
    HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following: your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message.(Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Please install HijackThis where requested. You have it where we ask that it not be installed:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Judy\Desktop\HijackThis.exe

    Fix this before continuing.

Also note there are two online scanners list in the READ ME FIRST. They are the FIRST step of the cleanup and they are not optional. You said you ran ALL steps but you did not run these online scans. Is there a reason why? Did you skip anything else?

You have multiple trojans on your system, I would have expected some would be fixed with those scans.

First go to Add/Remove programs and look for each of the below and uninstall if found:

    ToolBar or HuntBar
    Virtual Bouncer
    SED
    Winad Client

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = www.zestyfind.com/
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll/sa
    O2 - BHO: SDWin32 Class - {F5E71F8F-19FD-488F-92F0-4779EFFC7E01} - C:\WINNT\System32\obddg.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [4e84e1ddeb21] C:\WINNT\System32\Amsample.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VBouncer] C:\PROGRA~1\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [htklymskv] C:\WINNT\System32\kfykqn.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [a9l.exe] C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\a9l.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [conscorr] C:\WINNT\conscorr.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Sys29] C:\winnt\system32\winjws32.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [k.exe] C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\k.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SESync] "C:\Program Files\SED\SED.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TBPS] C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [qmFS33l] plung.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Winad Client] C:\Program Files\Winad Client\Winad.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [erialuis] C:\WINNT\System32\erialuis.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [3CAZ6GX5FDBPTD] C:\WINNT\System32\BhoHW.exe
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINNT\System32\mcd32577m.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\VBouncer <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Toolbar <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Winad Client <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\SED <--- the whole folder
    C:\WINNT\System32\obddg.dll
    C:\WINNT\System32\Amsample.exe
    C:\WINNT\System32\kfykqn.exe
C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp <--- delete all files and subfolders in the Temp folder that you can but make sure the below two are deleted.
    C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\a9l.exe
    C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\k.exe
    C:\WINNT\conscorr.exe
    C:\winnt\system32\winjws32.exe
    C:\WINNT\System32\plung.exe
    C:\WINNT\System32\erialuis.exe
    C:\WINNT\System32\BhoHW.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again.

I want to hold off on deleting this C:\WINNT\System32\mcd32577m.dll
    We can delete later.

    Now:
Run Ccleaner to clean all temp folders and Recycle Bin etc.

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

I moved Hijack This to Program files. I did run those first two scans that were online before I sent my first post. They did clean some files. It wouldn't let me do them in safe mode with networking support so I had to run them in normal mode.

I did the steps in your last post. When I went to Windows Explorer to delete the files and folders. I had deleted all of them before but I double checked to make sure none of them were back which they weren't. I did notice that there were some files that may be related but I didn't do anything with them. Such as obddga.xml obddgb.xml obddge.xml obddgf.exe amsample.dll amstream.dll conscorr.ini

Any way with resetting the Web Settings, Internet Explorer is working correctly!!!

I will attach the new Hijack This log. It shows all of those entries back that I had done the Fix on. But Internet is working.

According to your HijackThis log the online scans were not run. They download active x files to your PC and they will show in the O16 section of your HJT log. If they do not show, it means they were not run or you remove the entries from your HJT log (which you did not say you did).

It looks to me like you have an infection in you explorer.exe file that is respawning all of your problems. This will require some special cleanup procedures. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
