I am currently using internet explorer 6.0 with sp2

When I launch internet explorer everything is fine until I close then I receive the following error:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close....the error has to do with shdocvw.dll

I have run all Trend Micro Virus Scan, Norton Virus Scan, E Trust Virus Scan,Adaware, Spybot Search & Detroy and nothing detected.

    How do I fix this???

Here is a copy of my HijackThis Log

All logs including HJT logs should be attached to your post. This will be edited by a mod and converted to a .txt file.

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

Update to HiJack this 1.99 then see this sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT

I followed all the instructions in DO NOT POST UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THIS: How to: Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal.

Ad-Aware detected a couple of critical issues which fixed and Spybot found an issue which was fixed. Everything else ran clean with nothing detected. This was all run is SAFE MODE. I then rebooted and I still have the problem INTERNET EXPLORER HAS ENCOUNTERED AN ERROR.

I stopped at Alternative Scans - If still having a problem.

I'm extremely frustrated at this point......what next?

You are using at least three different antivirus applications:
    Symantec
    TrendMicro
    CA ETrust

    Uninstall all but one.
Also, have you disable Win XP SP2's built in firewall. You must not use more than one software firewall and you have CA's firewall (whic shows as Zonelabs) .

Ok - I have uninstalled Trend Micro and Symantec. Also I have turned off the windows firewall.

    What next?

First please update to HiJack this 1.99

If your still having problems please see this sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis as a .txt file attachment to your message. All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail.

Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT

Also, if your recieving any error's please provide as much information as possible as in error numbers and exact error messages. Thanks!

The error occurs when I close out of Explorer. At that point I receive the error INTERNET EXPLORER HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM I am then given a choice to SEND or DONT SEND an error report. When I click on details the error has to do with "Shdocvw.dll"

    1) I have run every possible virus scan & spyware

    a) Trend Micro's Free Online Virus Scan
    b) Symantec Security Check
    c) E Trust Virus Scan

    d) Ad-Aware SE - Installed, Checked for Updates and run.
    e) Ad-Aware VX2 Cleaner Plug-In
    f) CCleaner
    g) Spybot - Installed, checked for updates, installed Spybot - Search and Destroy DSO Exploit Fix and run
    h) SpywareBlaster - Installed, checked for updates, Enable All Protection
    i) McAfee AVERT Stinger - run
    j) CWShredder - run
    k) Kill2me - run
    l) about:Buster - run
    m) HSRemove - run

all run while in Safe Mode

    2) After all this my system runs clean with no viruses detected, etc. yet I still have the Internet Explorer error mentioned above.

One last note - I am running XP Pro and have two users. One user does not experience the Internet Explorer error while the 2nd user experiences the error every time.

When I go to my applications event log there is an error:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module shdocvw.dll, version 6.0.2900.2518, fault address 0x0001408d.

    Thanks for helping!

I don't see any obvious causes of your problem with IE in your HJT log.

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm
    O16 - DPF: {F72BC3F0-6C20-4793-9DDA-258589D8A907} - http://akamai.downloadv3.com/binaries/IA/netslv32_EN_XP.cab

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\about.htm

Did you disable WinXP SP2's built-in firewall? You cannot have multiple firewalls running and you have another one.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound stupid however:

    1) Have you tried a rebuild of IE?:

    start>add/remove programs>Microsoft Internet Explorer>rebuild.

When I do the above, there is nothing that says MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER

    2) Manyy .dll crashes just need an IE rebuild. You may also need to download and reinstall the .dll.

    http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll...l/download.html

When I go there I receive an error message: Internet Explorer cannot download shdocvw.dll from www.dlldump.com Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site

I'm really frustrated and I appreciate everyone's help in trying to solve this problem......any other ideas???

    Let's give this a try:

    1) Click Start >> Run

    2) In the Open box type:
    iexplore.exe /rereg

    3) Click OK

Let me know if this works!
