Internet Explorer Privacy Question

Using Internet Explorer, what is the best way to assure that IE does not save username and password information for Web mail accounts on a multi-user system.

For example, Billie uses Yahoo mail, logs out, and surfs off somewhere else. A little while later Jane decides to check her Yahoo mail. I want to be sure that no information from Billie's Yahoo session (Yahoo I.D., etc.) is displayed ... and certainly not to automatically login with Billie's ID and password.

I'm asking all of this because I'm a Firefox user but IE is required on this particular system. Suggestions appreciated. ;)

    Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give the High setting a try. I know that the High setting might interfere with some Web site access and was kind of looking for a more fine tuned method ...

Thanks again. Unfortunately, as you indicate ... using the High setting is sort of like using a sledge hammer on the problem. I suspect there is a less drastic tweak to address this concern. :)

Tool-> Internet options, on the general tab, set "days to keep in history" to 0, content tab-> autocomplete, uncheck all options for "use autocomplete for"; go to the advanced tab, uncheck "inline autocomplete" under browsing, and "Empty Temporary Internet files when browser closed" under security, and you should be there.

Let us know if there is anything else being saved between sessions!

Thanks Gecks ... that's what I'm looking for. One question. I follow you on the uncheck of "inline autocomplete." Would you check or uncheck the "Empty Temporary Internet files when browser closed" item under Security? Seems like checking this would purge the temp files and be desirable.

    I really appreciate your thoughts.

Yup, you are right- "Empty Temporary Internet files when browser closed" should be checked! Sorry 'bout the typo, and very glad to hear that it helped. :)

Thanks again Gecks. I'm assisting in the setup of standalone computers in the activity room at several retirement and assisted living facilities in our area. They will have cable or DSL connections and volunteers will teach classes on Web mail and other computer stuff. I just want to be sure information is not passed from IE session to IE session but not lock the systems down so tightly that searching, browsing, etc. would be a problem.

I'll play with these setting for bit and give you some feedback.

Feedback ... as promised. After playing around for a while, I only see one situation where information is saved between sessions.

Using Yahoo Mail ... if the user clicks 'Remember my ID on this computer' and then closes IE at the end of the session rather than first clicking 'Sign Out', the same user will be logged in when the browser is reopened. Very persistant cookie. ;)
