Internet issue on old laptop

I have an old sony vaio laptop from work that i use on business trips.
I was recently in a hotel with ethernet cable connected with speed of 100Mbps, but the pc could barely open a webpage, any ideas?

 

Many. The network, network traffic, the network card itself, or even the possibility the driver could use a refreshing.

I believe network was ok as a colleague was downloading large files easily etc.

 

I would go to speedtest.net and check the speed of your connection. That should point you to either the hotel network issue or your machine.

 

Thanks but please explain what i should/can do on that site, as i already said I got 100Mbps on PC at the hotel?!

 

Did you run the test at the site? What were your upload and download speeds? It's very hard for me to believe that you got 100mps speed to the Internet from your hotel room! What tool did you use to confirm this speed????

 

100 Mb/s is a generic term for the adapter's potential.

Right clicking on either the wired, or wireless icon in the system tray and left clicking on ""Status" will show you the packet load. If the packet count ticks up slowly, you have a network or card issue.
