Internet issues secured sites

I was looking for other threads before poting this one, but it looks like most issues are with XP.

I have windows 2000 and recently started having problems using IE 6 and Firefox. When I try to access any secured sites Yahoo mail, banking etc. Also, somtimes when trying to do microsoft windows updates. I get a page cannot be displayed and in the status bar is says Connection Failed.

I have Adware and Norton on my machine. I recently tried updating some registry files to fix the problem but that didn't help either. This idea came from Microsoft.

I did read on another site to disable Norton so I am going to try that tonight, but does anyone else have any ideas.

Well, I can't believe I found a fix before any one responded. I was doing research on other forums etc. Not sure where I found this regarding similar issues, but they said to run the following command and it worked wonderfully!

Simple DNS flush
Start > Run > (type) cmd /k ipconfig /flushdns > ok (pay attention to the spaces)
