Internet works for iPhone but not laptop?

Hi everyone. Earlier today, my internet stopped working all of a sudden. I could not, and still cannot, load any web page (using Chrome). However, I am able to connect just fine on my iPhone using the same network. My roommate had been unable to connect via his laptop as well.

My network tooltip shows 5 bars as well as internet access, but I can't load any pages. I get a "DNS lookup failed" or "interrupted" errors every time.

I've tried restarting my computer, turning off and on my wifi, restoring, and windows troubleshooting. I also tried connecting to other networks around me , but still can't load anything. I've also tried running in Safe Mode but no luck. Because I don't have internet, I can't update any drivers or check for updates. I live in an apartment and share one network with those on my floor, so checking the modem/router will be difficult.

I'm using an HP dv6t Quad running W7 Ultimate 64 bit. My wifi adapter is the Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n Wifi Adapter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

First thing I would be looking at, is a firewall issue. What third party software are you using for Internet Security on your laptop?

Well it's working today for some reason...not sure if the problem will come up later though. I'm not using any sort of security software; at least I don't think I am.

You should be using at least Microsoft Security Essentials, or as it shows up on Windows 8 now "Windows Defender".

All I have is the firewall. The thing is my roommate also has connectivity issues...I feel like it's confined to out room because no one else is having problems.

If this is at a school, then most likely IT has your room blacklisted on the Domain. Have you even tried to contact your School IT dept, if this is a dorm room.

I'm in an off-campus apartment. I use the apartment's network instead of the school's.

Still something is going on in your building, if you are the only unit that is having problems as you are stating. Have you talked to the company that maintains the Networking equipment and Internet for your building, to make sure that your unit is not blacklisted, or being throttled for possible abuse.
