Hello. I had alot files saved on my laptop, before deciding to let my dad borrow it for a business trip. Im assuming he looked at some porn and got a virus and rebooted the system because when he gave it back all my files were gone- he just said it crashed. Right uh huh. Thanks dad. Anywho- i need those back! I had tons of pictures-and reports and documents from school- is there anyway to retrieve them? Im freaking out here! Please help!

I'll leave it to others to advise on software you can use. In the meantime the overriding consideration is not to use the computer any more than is absolutely necessary. Each time you use it Windows will feel free to place files anywhere that isn't marked as allocated, and that includes over the top of the files you want to recover, making recovery impossible.

Hi there QuAnTuMbEaUt, you could try Recuva they are the people that give us ccleaner it's really good piece of kit, it also tells you which files are good and which are bad, which you are able to recover and which you can't ! Hope this helps as i've used it before and it done the job i wanted it for ! ;)

    WARNING

Every file that you retrieve may simultaneously over-write and make un-recoverable one or more files that could otherwise have been recovered.
To avoid this you should recover to a separate drive (e.g. borrow an external USB connected drive.)

It is preferable to use a different P.C. to search for and download any recovery utilities, and they should be downloaded to a flash drive (or external USB drive) ready for use by your damaged system.

An even better solution would be not to use the drive at all, but to remove it and add it as a slave to another P.C. which will then continue to write the spurious Windows trash into its own drive C:\.
You may have a friend who can help you with this.

Your best option would be if you could persuade the I.T. department at your school to help you out.

    Hey Thanks everyone-

I was able to retrieve what I was looking for- and saved it to an external hard-drive. That was not difficult at all :)
