    Hello all,

My first post here, although I've searched the forums for help plenty of times. I just had a bout with the Dio Cleaner worm et al, and went though all the cleaning steps advised by MG. I was just wondering if someone could look over my logs to make sure that it's gone, and the steps to go through cleaning up the files (deleting MG, etc). Thanks in advance!

You will need to install SP2 when we know you are clean!

Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    Viewpoint Media Player

    Download and install:
    Java Runtime 6

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following:

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

    * Download RenV.exe from following link to Desktop (must be on the Desktop)
    * Doubleclick RenV.exe
o When finished, it will produce a new log named Log.txt on the Desktop.
o Attach this log to your next reply.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.

    Hi Tim,

Thanks for your help & advice. I went through all the steps you mentioned, the only hiccup being while trying to run MGtools, I kept getting an error that there was a missing file on the desktop (procdll.txt), so in the first step I just ran HijackThis and fixed the named files (some didn't show up)

I've attached the logs here, hopefully that clears everything up. Thanks again for your continued assistance!

    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.

    Hi Tim,

I ran the avenger like you said...looking at the log file it couldn't find any of the files or folders specified (is that a good thing?) In any case, I've attached it here for your review. Please let me know if there's anything further I need to do. Thank you for your continued assistance!

Yes that is good....to be sure, please run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Your logs look clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
    * How to Protect yourself from malware!

    Hi Tim,

I was about to do the updates, but noticed that my Internet was running really slowly and I'd get bouts of disconnection. Worried, I ran an AVG Anti-Spyware scan, and found a bunch of tracking cookies and 1 Downloader.VB.bvj virus. I'm searching the forums for removal help right now since I had it deleted, but it came back on a subsequent scan. I'm posting the report from the Ant-Spyware program.

You are right ...I missed that, my apologies...please re-run and attach the MGLogs.zip.

    Hi Tim,

Here is the MGLogs.zip. I keep seeing a tracking cookie being generated for "Tribal Fusion" that is detected by the AVG Spyware, i.e. it keeps coming back after being removed.

    Thanks.

    I am not seeing:
    C:\WINNT\winshow.exe in your logs now.

You will get a cookie (Tribal Fusion) every time you come to this site ...cookies are harmless ...not to worry about them.

    How are things running?

    Hi Tim,

I ran all the things you said, and it everything seems to be running ok. Not sure if you wanted me to post anymore logs.

One thing though...ever since the virus hit, computers on my network have been having bouts of disconnections to the wireless router (whether wired or wireless connection). For instance, you'll be browsing, then all of a sudden, the connection drops, and the page doesn't load. After a few refreshes it comes back. Any advice?

    Thanks again

You should approach that in the networking section ...or ask in software ...but if the activity is system wide and both wired and wireless...then I would wonder about the ISP ....does it happen when you are idle for a while? This can be caused by the network card being allowed to let windows turn it off when not in use ...also, does it happen to all computers at the same time?

    Hi Tim,

I'll repost my question into the networking section.

But just to answer some of your questions (and gather insight):
I'm not sure if it's the ISP, but it only began happening recently around the same time the virus was detected (coincidence?). It's a bit of a random occurance, although I haven't measured the time inbetween them....it can happen as I'm actively browsing the web. I'm connected to the internet via a Linksys wireless router connected to the DSL router. When there's the bouts of "down-time", I took steps pinging (via command prompt) a website (google), by IP address, DNS servers, and finally the Linksys router (i.e. gateway), and would receive no response...which is why I think it's more network related, and not ISP.

Thanks for your help. I'll also run another AVG scan tonight to see if there are anymore issues.

So you don;t have to recycle the modem or router?

I wonder if it isn't your wireless card .....try reinstalling the drivers for it.

  17. solarise26

    solarise26 Private E-2

No, I don't have to recycle the modem or router....it's like a hiccup where it can't talk to the router, then all of a sudden it's able to again. I don't think it's the wireless card only b/c it happens to the desktop that's wire connected also. I'm thinking about resetting the wireless router in case some config got altered, but not sure.

If it is both wired and wireless ...then yes it might be advisable to reset the router ...back to factory settings (did you have any security set on the router Weps, etc?)

And do you have a firewall installed (other than windows firewall)...I don't recall your logs to remember?

  19. solarise26

    solarise26 Private E-2

Yeah, I might reset the router tonight when I get home, although it's a pain setting up the PPPoE and all the WEP stuff. I don't have any firewalls installed.

Then I strongly suggest that you do install one of the free firewalls! :)
