Is there freeware, shareware or commercial product that really works, cleaning out old crap in your Registry. I had an old ISP program (dodo.com.au) and Installs of brother software that I have deleted from my PC but still appear as multiple entries in my registry.

I have tried RegSupreme 1.1 ( all 3 scans, down to extra deep scan) and RegCleaner 4.3 by JV Software and the entries still appear unharmed.

M$ regedit still finds them in a search, lots of entries.

TuneUp Utilities, System Mechanic and System Suite (in that order) are my favourites. They're shareware though.

    Bazz,
I can hardly believe RegSupreme missed anything significant! Are you certain that all of the files those registry entries refer to are GONE? (Not just uninstalled programs, but deleted files and folders as well?)

Anyhow, ... lots of people swear by RegSeeker. I haven't used it, but it looks as though you can set it to find and kill, the way you can RegScrubXP (too bad RegScrubXP only works on XP and 2k) and it's freeware, so you might give it a try.
    Get it here.

If those reg cleaners don't get that deadwood, I'd be taking a closer look at the files and folders on that machine. If RegSupreme is missing reg keys or values that have no file equivalents on the drive, there's something very odd going on.

I've been using Tuneup Utilities for a few months. No problems.

    Hi to all,

Thanks Wizewiz and others. I ( think ) I only have emails ( received and sent ) correspondence on my PC, found by using M$ Find as a quick search.

Surely emails would not result in entries in the Registry. Gotta go to the Fruit and vegetable markets for my weekly veggies soon, so I will make a thorough search later on.

I will download some of the programs mentioned and try them. I like the concept of RegSupreme so will concentrate on that first.

Regedit definitely still finds lots of entries.

That's the spirit! I tried to send you a PM, but this will have to do:

I've seen you make some fine contributions here.

And I've seen you come up with files in the Major Geeks listings that nobody else had thought of yet in the thread. That's great.

I'm old and slow too. We older guys have to support each other, sometimes.

    Best regards to you,

    Ww.

    Reg cleaner in Win 98SE

Thanks for all the replies. I have been out of action assisting 3 others getting their PC's up and running again, because of various reasons. My own laptop crashed after installing a program and I have spent more time than I should have, getting it going again.

Back to cleaning up my Registry, I will try again and investigate further, as suggested. My IE6 comes up with dodo although I never use IE6 specifically. AOL uses IE6 by proxy ( as I understand it), so I suppose dodo appears because of this. I am another old guy and I guess these little things are sent to keep away "old timers". I will keep on taking the tablets and get on with it.
