Is there a way to use a firewire device with usb?

My old laptop had a firewire port but my new one does not, and I have an external soundcard that only uses firewire. I don't think it is possible, but my brother claims it is with some kind of adapter or hub or something.

A hub with a USB and a firewire port needs to be connected to the computer via USB and firewire. Since your laptop doesn't have a firewire port, it is not possible to use a firewire device.

Do you have a card slot? If so you can add a firewire port that way

Hmm, I'm starting to get worried, lots of reviews I've read of some of these things talk about killing hardware. Even on that page...

I mean, is this a valid thing, or just some kind of hack? I'd just buy it and try it if I wasn't worried about destroying my hardware.

 

If you need a firewire port, then do the correct thing and just get a firewire card.

 

Maybe the port replicator (laptop dock) has the port or a slot you can use?
What is the new laptop model / make?
