Is there any software that can check a DVD for errors?

    Very few things I hate more than being in the middle of watching a DVD when it starts sticking and/or skipping? Is there any freeware available that could scan a DVD to see if it'd play smoothly all the way through?

    Just tested a disc with Nero DiscSpeed 5. Stopped when it reached 30% as the results so far didn't look encouraging. The surface scan said 0.5% good, 99.5% bad. But then I checked the disc myself, fast forwarding through all the episodes on it, and they all played fine. Why would I get such a horrific result on such a perfectly playable disc?
