Is This Normal? - Extremely Slow PC Even With 1gb RAM

Everything was running extremely slow on my PC for some reason so I opened up Task Manager to check the CPU Usage and it was around 80-90% for some reason. The only big memory consuming processes I had open were Azureus (Torrent Downloader), AVG (which was running a test at the time) & MSN Messenger.

I currently have 1gb of RAM installed so I'm assuming that it should be able to handle these 2 processes with no problem at all but that's not the case.

I have included a screenshot of the Performance page of Task Manager just incase anybody can notice anything wrong as I don't really understand it all:





Another thing is I have just installed a 2nd NTFS Hard Drive with 80gb of space but when I checked it was set to 'No Paging File'. I left it how it was because I didn't want to mess about with things I wasn't knowledgeable about. Is there anything I can do with the 2nd HDD to possibly increase overall performance on my PC?

EDIT: Also, I should note that it's not a malware or virus/trojan issue as one thing I always do is perform regular sweeps of my PC using programs such as Ad-Aware, AVG, Spybot, Spysweeper etc and they almost always come back clean

So, were both azureus and avg running at the same time? Avg, or any antivirus program can cause, what you are seeing.

I'd check the taskmanager, when you have nothing running in the background, and see if you still getting eratic cpu usage.

 

Go to task manager > view > select columns > cpu usage, ok > click processes tab, cpu from highest to lowest, post the screenshot
