Is this compatible with my system? Any recommendations for a different SSD?

I'm running 2 of the Samsung 840's on a similar setup (Q9550 CPU). It will 100% be compatible, however please note that if your going to use it as your default OS install, you will loose any recovery options you may have (system restore feature disk)

Also using Samsung. the software included was why I went with it. It's awesome. It mirrored my drive, then copied it to the SSD so now I have an extra backup.

Thanks to both of you. I was soooooo hoping you would say that. I placed my order and should be able to evolve up from this hellish computer stone age by Christmas.

Ummm, no! Sorry, but that's not true at all. System Restore works fine on SSDs, regardless if the SSD is the boot drive or not. You don't lose any restore or recovery features when using SSDs.
