itunes Installs Wont run

Im hoping someone can help me, Ive tried several times to install itunes6, it downloads set up, I can then install it, but as the install completes, I get "iTunes has encounted a problem & needs to close" & "send error report". I have unistalled all itunes folders & tried again, with same result.
The error report reads- Error signature then goes on about my ID & IP address.
In the error details it mentions this file-

ACER|LOCALS|Tempbf_appcompat.txt

I cant locate this file on search.
My PC Acer Windows XP 2000.
I hope someone technologically gifted will help out a chik with NO idea
