I have to go nighty now, and I don't know how to do the link for the hijack, so I'm just gonna post it as it came.

Edit by chaslang: Unrequested inline log removed

Please mail me at my real email, xxxxxxxxxx, and tell me what I need to delete, and how. Thanks.

Please read the announcement and sticky threads. HJT logs should only be posted when requested and then they must be attachments to your message. Also note we do not work by email. All work is done here in the threads for everyone to learn from. Posting your email address in a thread like that is an invitation for you to get a ton of spam. I xxxxx out your email address for your protection.

Also you should indicate your exact problems.

    Please run the steps below.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem, boot into normal mode and make sure you follow these directions:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Hello, sorry I didn't do it correctly the first time.

I'm not really having any problems, thank goodness, puter just slows down or does something unusual, and I run Spybot and it finds Wild Tangent, every time. Today it also found a total of 11 bad things, sorry, I didn't copy them. One was that AVE...something thing, and Wild Tangent again.

I run McAfee virus and spywareblaster contunually. I ran the two new virus scans that you have on the read first and found one new thing that spybot hadn't caught. I have also run ccleaner, ad aware, and have done a new hijack log. I don't have any hijackers that I know of. I did just download the newest one from your read first page and that is the new log I have.

I'd just like for someone to take a peek and see if there is something in there that the protection stuff is missing.

And if anyone knows where I'm getting Wild Tangent, I'd appreciate knowing how to avoid it. It doesn't seem to be causing harm, but it freaks me out to keep seeing it come up in BRIGHT RED everytime I run Spybot.

Thank You. I hope I have done everything right this time. I'll wait to see if you request the HJT log.

Follow ALL the steps from what I posted in message # 3. You must run ALL of the READ ME FIRST and then if still having a problem, follow the directions included for properly using and posting a HJT log.

Not really! My message said run the READ ME and if still having problems follow the directions for posting a HJT log and post it. Where is the log? See the last line of message # 3.

Despite reading the instructions on how to properly post the hijack log, I'm confused. When I run the log, it first shows in one box and the info cannot be copied and pasted, but immediately then a notepad version pops up, and that is what I copied and pasted into word to save it.

But saves as a wps file which is not an acceptable format for your manage attachments function. What should I do/what am I doing wrong?

You do not need to paste anything into word. When the notepad file pops up, HijackThis has already created the log file that we want you to attach. Just click File and Save. We do not want Word files. Just locate the hijackthis.log file (the default name it uses unless you change it) and attach it to your message. If you installed HijackThis where I requested, you will have a hijackthis.log file in the following folder c:\Program File\HJT

    This is what I got

    HJT.zip:
File Too Large. Limit for this filetype is 97.7 KB. Your file is 207.9 KB.

Why are you trying to upload HJT.zip? That is probably the file you downloaded from us.

Don't you see a hijackthis.log file or whatever name you saved it to?

Your log is clean! Are you having any problems? There must have been a reason for posting??

See my post #4. I thought there might be something in there that keeps letting Wild Tangent and the other "threats" that spybot keeps finding.

Can you tell me what wild tangent is?

Thank you so much for looking at it for me. As I said, I'm very careful where I go.

Wild Tangent is related to online gaming stuff. Some view it is not a problem while most of us (me too) view it as malware that should be removed. Many people pick it up from software installations from AOL or AOL's AIM. I see no signs of the typical items right now. Is Spybot currently finding something? There are many things in the registry that HJT does not show. In fact the registry is massive and HJT only signals out certain areas. If Spybot is finding something, post its log.

See the below for more info on WT:

I'll wait a couple of days and run spybot again and see if I pick up anything. I'm thinking maybe I am getting wild tanget from my Winston Poker Site, or perhaps my grandson is getting it in Runescape.

    Thank you for your help.
