Java error code 1603

I'm using Window Vista and Chrome. My computer performed windows updates last night and apparently deleted Java. When trying to reinstall, I continually get error code 1603. Can anyone help?

 

The 1603 has to do with the msi Windows Installer.
Unfortunately, from reading fixes, they seem very complicated to me.

Are you sure you need Java? I no longer have it installed on any Windows computer. I had it on one but used Revo Uninstaller to remove it. Java does not clean up after itself and I've found that JavaRA, which I used to cleanup before, did not work.

If you need it, your best bet might be to restore your computer to a time before the updates then try to update Java through the control panel icon.
The last update was on Patch Tuesday.

A bit off-topic: it gets annoying when EVERYONE decides to update on the same day. On Tuesday we had Windows patches, flash updates, Java updates, Firefox updates and a Malwarebytes new version. If you have auto updates turned on, all those updates running at the same time could bring a computer to it's knees and possibly break something in the process.

In July I used JavaRA to remove java v 7 update 51. It said it removed it. I started looking through my files. It did not remove it so I no longer recommend that as a removal tool for Java.

I also used it in May to remove old versions of Java. The computer I looked at had several v 6 updates and maybe a v7. JavaRA did not work on that person's computer either.
I go back in and look for Sun/Oracle folders.
