    hi!
my boyfriend got himself a virus JSB. and after he removed it, his destop dosen't show. he has to work everything from taskmanager, and it's really going horribly bad. :cry

He can't access really anything, nor can he start explorer.exe since he don't know where it is. something is really ****ed up with his system, and I have no idea how to help him. he can't access any anti-virus programs, nor anything to check for virus/remove virus with, since more of those programs are on his desktop.. wich is black and dosen't show squat. there is no start menu, nothing.

how can i help him without getting my own computer infected?
is re-installing win XP our only chance at this point? I wish I could transfer hijack-this to him so we could check att his processes. But he don't seem so keen on the idea, for chance if my comp. gets infected..

could someone preatty please with sugar on give us a hand?

    best regards
    Liz. :heart

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Are you sure that you really had the JSB infection?
Are you sure that is the only infection you had? This infection is not known to infect EXE files. Explorer.exe is located in C:\Windows Thus if you run C:\Windows\explorer.exe from Task Manager, the Windows shell should run unless something else is blocking it or the file has been deleted or corrupted.

If you do have a JSB infection, it will spread to your PC if you connect the PCs via a network, or if you use any writeable media in your PC after using it in the infected PC. Using a write once CD ( a CDR ) is the only safe way to copy files from your PC to your boyfriends PC.

HijackThis is not going to help you with an infection like JSB. You need to run an uninfected antivirus program that can specifically scan for and disinfected all .COM files that may have been infected.

    thanks chaslang!

yeah, I'm sure he's gotten the JSB.. and yeah, we're on a network.. this means I need to check my computer too eh.. :banghead

what antivirus can you recomend to get this off?
we have a constant F-secure going (one per PC). but it might well be infected then!?

I've been thinking of trying dr.web and spybot S&D, I have them uninstalled at this point since I rarely need them..
anything else you think might work?

since my computer hasn't acted weirdly at all since i re-installed it a few weeks ago, I haven't thought I might have gotten jsb. F-secure hasn't asked me for anything odd lately, and i have it on a high security level. only issues I've had has been with my flashplayer in firefox. but I'm gonna take a look at my computer.

I've checked my computer during the day with latest cuteit and with latest spybot S&D, all i found was some adware and som infected files in some old virus-removal programs that I just deleated. and after i made a complete scan with f-secure..and it seems my computer is acctually clean.
    but can i trust that?
is there anything else I should check my computer with?
since I have distance courses in school where I need to send in my papers through e-mail, I'm worries that the infection is on the network and will attatch itself to my schoolwork and thus infect the school-system, because that wouldn't be pretty! but if i don't send my schoolwork, I'll get failed in my class. Do I need to worry about this at all? or am I just being overly female-worried!?

Spybot is only an average antispyware scanning tool. It will not detect virii, trojans...etc. And Dr.CureIt is not a full blown package either.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

Make sure none of your harddisks are sharing and files or folders.

Remove the infected PC from the network and erase all partitions and the create new partitions and reinstall it.
