I'm in dire need of help. My laptop is used for work and it just BSODed when i opened an application i downloaded on the web. It opened what looked like a CMD and ran something. By the time i knew it, BSOD happened.
I know it was my fault but can anyone help me with it?
(i'm sorry if i didn't take the time to look through the forum, but i'm panicking.)

    Here's what my BSOD said:

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    *alot of useless info*

    Technical information:

    ***STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000000, 0x0000001c, 0x00000001, 0x804FB03c)

I really need the help. Please guys!

Just to add on(calmed down abit), i'm using windows XP PRO SP3, on a HP 4411s Probook.

i've taken the drive out to back up all my data, surprisingly, they are still all there.

i'm suspecting the application corrupted my boot files/sector.

    will a XP repair work?

And if i don't get it to work, what else can i do?(i really want to keep all my data as it is.)

What was the application you downloaded? Usually IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL has to do with a bad/wrong driver. Are you sure the other information was useless? No filenames listed?

like i said, it's my fault. i downloaded a keygen for speedbit accelerator. i tried to use it then it opened up a CMD and ran a line of code. the the BSOD happened. that's all.

    Hi,

I'm trying to figure out if the lot of useless info points to anything/any file in particular.

Have you tried safe mode (F8 repeatedly at start up)?

i had this happen a while back, with same info. I put in my xp original disc and followed guidelines to doing a repair not a full reinstall, this way it repairs all your windows files only and leaves your documents, music, and files intact. The best bit is you backed up your stuff anyhow didnt you? so you can reinstall programs. This worked so well for me, and i am more careful now what things i download. Good luck

The *load of useless stuff* just says the default stuff that all blue screens do. i figured only the technical info is the one that's useful, And sach, (thanks for replying btw) there wasn't any file name. i'm was looking at it few hours ago.(the BSOD)
i'm trying to repair, but it doesn't seem to work. It went all the way into the installation, but it stopped short at completing installation. and it's been there since.. 1-2 hours. it wouldn't budge. i tried force shut down and letting it continue, but still stayed the same.(i tried the repair sequence 2 times in total)
I've backed up my important stuff. but i have loads of videos i have in there and it's like 60GB, i didn't have the time to copy all of them out.(i really want those videos T_T)

and umm, sach2 i did try safe mode. the blue screen appears right after it has loaded alot of files. didn't get to the welcome screen at all. i think it's a malicious code that corrupted my boot files / sector. i tried making a new boot sector already.(this all happened BEFORE i tried repairing)

If you can get into the Repair Console from your Windows CD try this at the command prompt -

    FIXMBR <Enter>

    FIXBOOT C: <Enter>

Oh no. i'm stuck in a endless loop of the repair process. it hangs at a certain time, and i just forced shutdown. i tried using F8, but it still goes into the repair process.

Sometimes, I have seen the hang issue, when you have previously upgraded the windows media player from version 9 to 10, or 11.

Most user's XP CD are either sp1 or sp2.

So, when you get to the stalled area, hit SHIFT + F10. A command prompt will appear. Type in taskmgr.exe (press enter).

Task manager should now appear. Click processes, sort by image name.

Now, list the names of the processes you have. One of these processes is windows media player that may be causing the lockup. Last time I had to do this was back in 2004, so hopefully my memory is correct.

Course, another option, would be to go to the recovery console, and delete the windows media player from the system, then do another repair.

    Just some thoughts.

Could you say what the message now is when it blue screens. I repaired a permanent blue screening pc a short while ago by putting in xp disc, letting it boot but pressing f1 for settings, then disabling external caching. It slows repair process down dramatically but it allows the process to coninue without bluescreen. I was told this particular pc was not recoverable but it is now working and no files lost. When i say slow....i mean painfully slow but it worked. Once it is repaired and loaded you have to remember to restart and f1 and enable cahing again. Good luck, id really like you not to lose your videos.

I've resolved the issue by taking out my hard drive, sticking it to a sata-to-usb convertor, pluggin in into another pc, copying all the my data out. then i plugged the hard drive back into my laptop and did a fresh format and installed windows again. thanks for all the advice though guys =)
