Just to make sure...

    I'm starting to get interested in running a second monitor, I just bought a new monitor yesterday, in thus, my other LCD is now just sitting around. Since I am running my current monitor through my cards DVI port can I hook up the other monitor though my cards VGA port without damaging anything?

    It should work. If it has 2 outputs. Be sure to set up the monitors in display properties for mirroring images or otherwise.
