Just upgraded to Win 8.1... and I broke it :(

Hi! If anyone could help me out with this, I would greatly appreciate it. About an hour ago, l noticed all the services in the control panel are giving an error. They say "Failed to Read Description. Error Code 2" where the description is supposed to be. It looks like they're running though.

I'm not sure, but I think this might have been caused by installing a copy of pc mechanic earlier. I'm thinking it might have deleted something important when I used it to clean out the registry, but I don't know for sure.

Try a System Restore to before you installed that program.

Also "registry" programs are nothing but trouble.
Stay away from them.

 

Yeah, I won't be using any from now on. System restore won't work. It gets to the very end, then gives an error saying it couldn't access a file.

 

Pat yourself on the back and call yourself lucky. If I could install Windows 7 on my three month old Toshiba Satellite, I would have by now. Cannot even install Linux because of how screwed up things have come with what Microsoft wants from manufacturers.

As for your problem, stop using PC Mechanic.
