Lacking sound card driver

Hi,

Following a nasty virus, I had to reformat my computer. Things went fine, exept for the sound. Windows can't seem to recognize a multimedia sound card.
I have tried, unsuccesfully, to get a working driver. However, as you can see, according to Everest, the device is supposed to be called Intel 82801GB ICH7 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1]. I read somewhere that this is not even the name of a sound device at all, so I at a loss for what to do.

Can you help me?

is this a home built system or store bought? I cant' tell from your everest report. either way, could you post your model/make of the computer or motherboard?

I'm afraid we're being fairly noobish over here. It says "945P A7A ver: 7.1" on the motherboard, is that a useful answer?

Is there another way to figure out the name?

It is custom built, by the way, but not by me. I bought it back in 2006.

 

it appears that this is a biostar board.

and I can't find the exact match, but it seems that they mostly use realtek ac97 drivers. here's a link to realtek's drivers. try it out.
