Lag, slow loading times, slow startup/shutdown

As the title says, I am having problems with my computers loading times and lag in games and other areas.

At first I thought I had some malware draining resources or something, but I followed the guide in these forums for removing it and ran ad-aware, spybot, microsoft anti-spyware, ccleaner and my antivirus software. That cleaned up a few things that ad-aware alone had not previously found, but the lag issue and slow loading times still remained.

I dont think is a connection issue, as some of the problems are unrelated to internet connection, like my startup and shutdown.

Often when I shut down, it notifies me that ccApp.exe process is not responding. I looked this process up and beleive it is a norton anti-virus auto update process, but if it always not responding, maybe it is draining resources.

Any help would be appreciated, and if I forgot to mention any information please ask and I will try to provide it. Thanks

I also uninstalled my norton antivirus software, to see if that was related to my problems, but didn't notice a difference.

Uninstalling Norton was a good choice IMO. It's a resouce hog and doesnt really do a good job I dont think. I recommend AVG AntiVirus for AV because its free and has a small footprint. I use this and it does a great job.

Please look in Add or Remove Programs for the following and Uninstall them if found:

    Ewido

Now scan with HijackThis and Check the Boxes for the following:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - WRLogonNTF.dll (file missing)

Make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    NEXT:
Run CCleaner to clean up cookies and temp files.

Run full scans with Ad-Aware SE & Spybot S&D and have both programs fix what they find.
Note: Remember to get all updates before doing the scans.

After you complete the above, reboot and procede with the below...

    Download WinPFind

Extract it to the root folder of drive C ( C:\ ). This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder. Inside C:\WinPFind is a file called WinPFind.exe. Double-click on this file to launch the program. Once it is launched, click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish. This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can take a while, upwards to 30 minutes or more.

When it is done, it will show the results of the scan. Click on the Copy to Clipboard button and then paste the contents of the log in your clipboard. Then save it to a file using notepad and upload the text file here as an attachment.

Copy the contents of the below Quote Box to Notepad. Then click File and then Save As. Change the Save as Type to All Files. Name the file fix.reg and then click save. (make sure you save it somewhere you can find it. Saving it to your Desktop may make that easy.) Then double-click on the fix.reg file on your desktop (or locate it with Windows Explorer and double click on it if not saved to the Desktop) and when it prompts to Add in to the registry, say yes.
After you complete the above, reboot and attach a fresh HJT log.

First of all, thank you tons for the help and patience, i really appreciate it and am glad I found this resource.

But, yeah still the same issues.

I ran mem test and didnt get any errors, thinking maybe i had a bad stick of ram.

Im starting to think it might be just time to reformat. While I am at it I can upgrade my crappy HD.

Your logs are clean so I dont think its malware related.

How much memory do you have? What's your CPU speed?

I would bet it's the HDD, with those specs I dont see how its running slow. Jump over to the Hardware Forum and those guys will confirm that for you.

    Good Luck!:)
