I have some concerns about possible infection of my Dell laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1); 4.00GB installed memory; 64 bit OS. Started having occasional system crashes when running (automatic) Avast antirvirus scans - sometimes the computer would freeze when the scan was around 97-99% complete (or just the scan would freeze, necessitating reboot to get it to stop "running" for hours upon hours with no progress), or sometimes crashing, with a "Kernal Data Inpage Error" and a message that it was "collecting data for crash dump" and twice now, that the "memory dump failed". I stopped running the daily scan to try to sort out the issue, and used the Avast Boot Scan and other protection I have been using at MG recommendation for diagnostics, etc.

Also noticed on my (weekly) "clean-ups" that Spybot Search and Destroy also (on 1 or 2 occasions) caused the same thingto happen and decided to do the Malware reports and post, as I am now nervous that I may have become infected as a few more issues started to appear:

Around the same time the crashes started, the computer stopped "hibernating", and would reboot itself minutes (half an hour sometimes?) later.

I also started to see the (!) symbol remaining visible almost every day on the shut down menu, despite having ensured that automatic updates were complete (and in fact, removed the "automatic" update so that I could be sure when the prompt for updating appeared that I succesfully downloaded and installed them). I rarely ever boot the computer without seeing that prompt on shut down or restart. However Avast bootscans never revealed any problems, and the computer otherwise seemed okay.....

When I ran the scans today, the Malware Bytes scan did the same thing: I noticed the scan stopped at the
C:/SYSWOW64/drmmgr.dll file and then crashed to the Kernal data Inpage Error page as above. I RERAN that scan in SAFE MODE and it completed (text file attached for that scan), but not without a VERY large pause (6 minutes) at just about exactly the same point... as I held my breath for a crash, I noted it paused at C:/WINDOWS/SYSWOW64/dpx.dll - probably the file JUST before the (now becoming infamous) drmmgr file I have seenon former scans just as it crashed..... but it finally moved on and completed the scan.

Rebooting after that (and the other recommended) scans revealed the (!) symbol on the shut down menu, and to test the ability to complete an Avast scan I booted in normal mode and that scan, sadly, crashed again around the 96-97% complete point..... though I hibernated it and it stayed hibernated after that for at least an hour.

While running the scans, I had one other difficulty arise. The Hitman Pro scan turned up no threats, but had several PUPs in the list. I COULD NOT get it to ignore them, as that "option" did not exist (and I was following the tutorial). It asked for my email addy to activate the trial and I typed it in, and against your directions (though not deliberately - I was trying to figure out how to get to where I could select the report) it then promptly quarantined those items. I am hoping I didn't cause further trouble (fingers crossed).

I hope that I provided all the details you need, and thanks in advance for your assistance!

Not seeing much to do. Re run Malware Bytes and let it remove anything else it may find.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

I ran the Malware Bytes (not in safe mode this time) and again it got hung up at the C:/WINDOWS/SYSWOW64 folder (this time/driverquery.exe) but I decided to try to pause it and resume scan (formerly on Avast that would not have done much - if anything), and that worked to get it going again and complete the scan (provided log though there did not appear to be anything to clean this time). Very strange that three different malware/AV programs keep getting hung up at that folder, right at that same point in the folder?!

Ran the Junkware Removal Tool no problem. Log attached.

However, on reboot (to reactivate my AV and post here) there is a new message that appeared: "C:/Windows/System32/LogiLDA.dll. Specified module could not be found."

    Thanks!

I would suggest that you post in the software forum. Malware is not looking to be the cause of your issues.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thanks! I did notice that my computer stopped automatically restarting when it was on hibernation, so I am assuming something in my logs addressed that? I will head over to software forum now. Your help is very appreciated. Have a great day!
