A friends laptop got busted to pieces. I want to help him recover the data (pics/music) from the hard drive. Where do I start?

Will his hard drive be compatable with my laptop? His is Compac I think and mine is Dell.

His is (or was) running Vista.

    Any info is appreciated.
    Thanks ~ Elise

USB adapter is the first requirement, then you may also need to use recovery application like recuva to recover your files.

    good luck helping.

With that type of adaptor, you can read it, by attaching to your laptop, and copy files to a usb stick, also attached to your laptop.
Most of the time you can do that, but if you find you need permisions , then come back, and ask again.
