Turned on my laptop today and was suprised to see 2 white lines paralel to each other going across the screen horizontally. I tried changing resolution, updating drivers ect but it definitely seems to be a monitor problem.

    Can anyone explain whats wrong?

Ok and now it won't be on long before it freezes, with little colored speckles all over the screen... Anyone have any idea what either of these things are, or should i send it in on warrenty.

I would send it in if you attempt a repair yourself it may void the warrenty.

Well the white lines have dissapeared.

But, unfortunately another problem has risen.

Soon after I have the computer on the screen will go black, and there will be no compute activity, sometimes before it even starts up.

Does it do this in Safe Mode?

Doesn't sound good. Does it beep at all?

And do you have another computer and hardware you can test?

I'd also be checking the cables and making sure it's all connected properly and there are no bent pins in the plugs.

sounds like overheated issue, and cooked now. 3.2 ghz means its new, so send it back, maybe they forgot to thermal paste or something like that. sounds like the board is no good, or the processor. or a combination of problems. one thing to try, would be find the ram access pannel, and pull the chip out, and try to start it. if it beeps then replace the ram. when you put the sticks back in start the computer up. it is possible for a rough shot to dislodge the ram. Resetting the chip might solve your problem.

Thanks for all the help, going to plug it in to a regular monitor when I get home. 2 of the screws on bottom are rounded off big time so I'm not sure how I'm going to get inside it.

It could be an overheating issue.. but.. It also seems to be random, because I had it on log enough today to restore it to an older time before it did it again. And sometimes even when it has been off for an hour it will just start out black.

It is actually about a year and a half old. I bought it in july of 2004, so the one year warranty is up. =(
    Again, thanks.

Oh, and there are no beeps. The harddrive light blinks 6 or 7 times and theres no activity from anything after that.
