Minor geek needs help from a Major geek

My lap SHUTSDOWN without warning. :cry Had a bad time with malware recently. Ran various programs and re-gained control of my browser again. I don't think I got it all. Can't remember the name of the stupid program that relentlessly insisted that I pay them money. (SOBs need to be hunted down and shot).
I apologize for that but its hard not to get emotional about being extorted while they muck eveything up. It had "spy-bot" in the name but it was NOT spybot search and destroy. ALso a picture of a five dollar bill would appear (pay up!) in IE even though I used firefox.

Well after fighting with that for sometime I got rid of the pop-ups. But all is not well.

The SHUTDOWN issue consistantly happens when I try to re-install or clean install windows, burn a cd or dvd, run spybot to name a few. SHUTSDOWN even in safemode. It does NOT seem to be a heat thing. It happens with and without the battery installed running on AC. If I just use it to type a letter or whatever eventually it still SHUTSDOWN.

Let me start from where Im at now because of frustration I can't remember everthing I did up to this point.

    Let's turn it on...

BOOT - runs scan disk do to improper shutdown....

Got this one just now. sometimes more than 1 DLL error pops up.

    RUNDLL
    eRROR LOADING c:\windows\SYSTEM32\J5211934.DLL
The specified module could not be found.

Run lavasoft Ad-aware SE after webupdate. nothing except couple cookies.

Now running Spybot search and destroy. Always shutsdown when I run SB lets test it again.... Yup killed it again. Happens everytime!

At this point I just want my lap back. I'd like things to be as they were but not opposed to clean install c: drive but want to keep d: I guess I need to indentify if it is bad software or hardware. Not sure what or why my machine keep shuting down. If someone can help with this I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Carrie

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Shutdown problems are rarely due to malware. However the best way to know if you still have any malware on your PC is by having you do the below.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
