I bought a pretty decent laptop two weeks ago. Just tonight though the sound stopped working after I unplugged my headset. The headset sound still works perfect.

I read that the jack can sometimes get messed up after unplugging, so people have had success replugging until it works. I did this for 10 minutes straight with no success.

What other options do I have? A two week old laptop losing sound is pretty terrible luck.

The most obvious reason for this is that the contacts inside the jack plug socket (female) are sticking in the closed position.
It could also be a defective socket.
If your PC is under warranty i suggest you take it back, if not it depends how good you are at soldering (it's not a big job) to replace the socket or let your local PC shop do it.
