Laptop VGA Troubles

I have a Compaq Presario CQ62 laptop, everything is fully functioning. Except thee crenels. You see, I dropped it a while ago and now the screen is simply bedazzled with a gigantic black streak inside the screen as well as a vast assortments of lines and glitches. Pretty!
Anywho aside from being sarcastic, I'm having issues working a VGA cable. They keyboard is fully functioning, as I've already checked. I figured I could just use my tv as a monitor itself. The VGA cable I got from my friend is working properly, as I tested it with another laptop. I pressed the change display button given on my computer multiple different times in several different ways. Nothing changed. Help?

 

Did you change the "Source" via your TV's menu?

 

Of course. I don't know what's up.

 

No offense meant - it is often the obvious overlooked that is the problem so we cannot assume anything unless you say it.

From here, it sounds like this function was damaged too when the notebook was dropped. So if me, I would try a 3rd monitor (a real computer monitor if possible, not a TV) just to make sure the problem is the notebook and not the TV.

No big deal. I know how frustrating it can be when something is not working right and there is no apparent reason why.
