Trying to clean my sister's Ideapad running Windodws 10. She reported that she was having problems accessing the internet. When I looked I found that IE and Edge wouldn't connect to any URL, but I could connect using Opera that was already installed. When I looke din the hosts file I found these entries:

    127.0.0.1 down.baidu2016.com

    127.0.0.1 123.sogou.com

    127.0.0.1
    czzsyzgmdotcom
    czzsyzxldotcom

    127.0.0.1

I removed those entries and restarted and then found that IE was trying to connect to http://www.tohotweb.com/?oem=sunadukv3&uid=W3PGJW4Y_ST500LT012-1DG142&tm=1448383967

Managed to reset that, and then found that Windows Defender hadn't updated since mid-January 2016 and wouldn't.

Please see attached logs - hope you are able to advise what to do to clean the machine!

    Regards
    Robert

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of the code box
    • Make sure that you scroll all the way to the bottom of the code box to get the whole fix!
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\WINDOWS\tasks\CreateExplorerShellUnelevatedTask.job
    C:\WINDOWS\tasks\DACFHFLKRGXICDMC.job
    C:\WINDOWS\tasks\{0E087847-0E79-7E7E-0911-0D0A7E79117E}.job
    C:\Users\Jill\AppData\Roaming\JybvipUobibo
    C:\ProgramData\Service1291
    C:\ProgramData\Frikesru
    C:\Users\Jill\AppData\Roaming\WTools
    C:\ProgramData\Pokki\PC App Store.lnk
    C:\Users\Jill\AppData\Local\Pokki
    C:\Program Files (x86)\4AFA29DE-1448383172-451F-14BB-EFC396FF098E
    C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\98e44e901fa743eab4c9f159e6096acf
    C:\Users\Jill\AppData\Local\Temp\*.*

    :Reg
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\services\NetTcpHandler]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\navegaki]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NetTcpHandler]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NtSvcHandler]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Exuei]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\Exuei]
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the + Repairs tab.
    • Then click the + Open Repairs button down on the bottom right.
    • This will automatically begin a registry backup, so wait for it to complete and when it finishes, you will see a list of many possible different repairs and they are all selected by default. At the bottom of this form there is a not so obvious Unselect All Repairs check box which is to the right of a check box with a green check mark in it. Please click the Unselect All Repairs box. The green check mark box is to Select All Repairs. The ony way you see what these boxes are is when your mouse hovers over them.
    • Now select the following repair options ( the numbers at the begin are the current repair numbers but this is subject to change.)
      • 01 - Reset Registry Permissions
      • 02 - Reset File Permissions
      • 03 - Reset Service Permissions
      • 04 - Register System Files
      • 05 - Repair WMI
      • 06 - Repair Windows Firewall
      • 10 - Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • 13 - Network
      • 14 - Repair Proxy Settings
      • 15 - Repair Windows Updates
      • 21 - Repair MSI (Windows Installer)
      • 23 - Repair File Associations (12 )
      • 26 - Restore Important Windows Services
      • 27 - Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the right side under the When Repairs Complete title, check the box for Restart/Shutdown System and then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled not the Shutdown System button.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start Repairs button at the lower right.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished. If it does not then reboot it yourself.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, Win7, 8 or 10, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7, Win8 or Win10, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Yes, the system is up and running, IE works OK and Windows Defender has updated and I have run a full scan. That found two more infections:
    Trojan:Win64/Patched.AZ.gen!dll (cleaned)
    SoftwareBundler:Win32/Stallmonitz (quarantined)

    Regards
    Robert

Those items could have been just redetections of things we already cleaned up or could just be from entries still in System Restore that we have not addressed yet. So let's complete final instructions and see how everything looks afterwards.

    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your Windows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • For Windows 8 and 8.1 system restore see this link: Win 8 System Restore - How to enable/disable
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Many thanks for your help. I've followed these through and installed Comodo to give protection going forward.
