    Hi.

I have a LG TFT monitor from 2009. A fews days it was troublesome in getting a display. I pulled out and reconnected the VGA connector and rebooted. Eventually I got the display back. However now the power light flashes and there's no display.

Last night I left it running and it said something like 'no signal...' with circled circles. I rebooted a spare PC and it was working again. This morn it's back to a flashing power light and no display. Is the monitor finished?

Update: I left it running and connected to my spare PC for over 15 minutes and the display just returned. :confused

If you can borrow another monitor and VGA cable, I'd hook it to the PC and see what happens.

If the other monitor shows the same problems, it's likely a problem with you PC's video card.

If the other monitor works, try the old one with the different VGA cable.

If neither of these solve them problem, the issue is with the old monitor itself.

    Hi gman863.

I've connected an old CRT monitor to my main PC and it works fine (it has it's own VGA cable builtin).

Unfortunately I've no spare VGA cable.

Before I could hold in the monitor power button for about a second and it would turn off the power light. Now though this does nothing and the red power light constantly flashes unless it is left on connected to running PC for about 15 minutes.

I went to the monitors settings and did a factory reset. All seemed fine.

However I've tried the monitor with my main PC again and the flashing power light is back. It's like the monitor is stuck in sleep mode or something.

Unless you have a tech friend who works very cheap, dead monitors are usually cheaper to replace than repair.

In my opinion, ASUS and Samsung are currently the two best brands on the market. I'm not an expert at currency conversion but, to give you some idea, a 19" in these brands should run about $120 USD; a 23"-24" should easily be found for under $200 USD.

Check the mfr. warranty before you buy: ASUS and Samsung usually offer a full three year warranty and (at least in the US) ASUS pays shipping both ways. Many cheaper brands come with either a one year full warranty or a limited three-year warranty that makes you pay the labor repair costs after one year.

One more thing. Please be sure to take the old monitor to a recycling center. If it ends up in a landfill, it may contribute toxic chemicals to the water supply.
