Just thought I'd pass this along...
I've been using OpenOffice since I bought my first computer and decided I wasn't going to pay some ridiculous price for M$ Word. It's been a good piece of software, but when I heard that Oracle had bought Sun I figured its days as free - and efficient - software might be numbered.
Trawling the net I learnt about LibreOffice, which is almost identical on the screen. Not surprising, because LO's creators also worked on OO. I decided to download and install today, mainly to see how well it meshes with XP. But I was caught unawares when LP basically pushed OO off to the side. My OO Writer files all open in LO when I click on them. Click on Properties and LO is there as 'Opens with' option. Even my Quickstarter icon has been - all right, I'll say it: assimilated.
Most programs install with a window that asks do you want this prog to open file types X Y Z... LO didn't bother with that, unless I blinked and missed it (and clicked Yes at the same time). A little annoying. Other than that, all seems well.

    Hi

One of the things many like for like applications do is to take over the file format and make it their own, especially some open source applications. Just need to reset the file associations for particular file formats with the application of your choice,

Generally right click the file and choose Open With then choose the app of your choice and tick the Always Open With box.
