Linux computers can see my hidden SSID, XP can no longer!

    Hi.

I use Ubuntu and Linux Mint on my home computers. I decided to stop broadcasting my router SSID. Both my 2 GNU/Linux computers and my dad's laptop (running Linux Mint) could connect to the internet without a problem.
A friend's Windows XP Pro laptop could pick up and connect to my router. Then a week went by and he tried to connect again but XP did not pick up my SSID, meanwhile all 3 Linux computers are still connecting with ease. Does anyone have a solution? Why would XP stop detecting a hidden SSID network?

Have you tried readding the wireless network information, since it is a hidden ap windows might have hiccuped and lost the info.

How exactly would I read the wireless network information?
Would I be better off deleting the my SSID network setting on my friend's XP laptop and manually adding it?

Alternatively, re-enable broadcasting of SSID the next time he comes over and he should connect right up. As soon as he does, disable broadcast again.

Yes, that is the easiest method. However if he called and I wasn't here - he would not be able to connect to the internet.

If you have pretty heavy security for your wireless connection, I would not be too concerned with broadcasting the SSID anyway. Just make sure your router username and password are different from the defaults and you could also MAC filter the router to add another layer in the security if you want to.
